I found out about wawa cafE on facebook. I was intrigued and decided to make a visit once I found out that the owners have a cat! Cat lady status, for real. The first time I went here, one of the owners, Micci, talked to me for a while about his cat, Tora-chan! He showed me all the magazines that she was featured in. She even has her own calendar, scheduler/planner, and book! He bragged that the book was sold out on Amazon. Haha. It was so funny, but I totally get how someone can be so fanatical about their cat. I'm the same way, so I always have to remind myself to tone it down sometimes. But I loved looking at her photos because she's so photogenic. She also doesn't mind costumes, which makes me a little jealous because my cats will rip off any clothes within 5 seconds.

wawa cafE serves their signature "wawa-rice" which reminds me of taco rice. It's basically beef cooked with garlic and/or curry spice on top of rice along with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers. The sauce, instead of salsa like regular taco rice, is shoyu-based. It's pretty good! In addition to serving food, coffee, tea, and dessert, the cafe is also a studio for photography and a shop where they sell hand-made goods! The decorations in the cafe have a vintage/countryside aesthetic, so I can see how some photographers would want to do certain photoshoots here.

Anyway, if you're ever in the Sunabe/Chatan area by Kadena Gate 1, I suggest checking this place out. If not for the food and coffee, then just to meet Tora-chan and maybe take a photo with her. The owners like to take photos of guests/customers, with their permission, of course, which I thought was kind of a neat way to document visits. :)

Hello! It's been a while.

Hello! It's Me at Churaumi Aquarium (Okinawa, Japan)

Hello All! It's been a LONG while. The last time I posted was in May 2015, while I was still on vacation in Japan. Yes, I'm a huge procrastinator. I still have a few presents from my trip that I haven't sent out. I'm horrible! But anyway, I'm going to try to get back into blogging. If you noticed, I purchased a domain name, kind of as a spur of the moment thing! It was $12 for a year, which isn't going to break the bank for me (even though I don't think I need it). I was debating on picking a catchier name, but in the end I was like, "mehhh... I don't care!" Some might think, "what the heck is cathyahh anyway?" But it's a username I've been using for so long now, it felt weird to choose something else.

I'm not sure if I mentioned it in the past, but we have two kitties now! Wedge, a tuxedo cat, and a big ball of striped fluff named Dash. We took Dash in for his annual exam a month ago and the vet thinks he's part maine coon, which makes sense! He's not incredibly huge, but he is bigger than Wedge and he weighs a couple pounds more. Plus, he's so fluffy!

Look at him in all his fluffy glory!

It's crazy to think that he used to be such a tiny kitten!

Anyway, I hope to write more soon and on a (slightly more) regular basis! I have some things that I want to share, for any of you out who cares! Haha.

I'll leave you with a picture of Wedge dressed up as a unicorn:

See you soon!

Happy Halloween!

I can't stop laughing at this picture! My poor cat. (I have no shame when it comes to him!) I took the original last night when I returned home after being at work for 12-hours (squadron had a trunk-or-treat event). It's on instagram, if you missed it! Anyway, I was looking through my picture album on Google+ and saw that they had the option to "halloweenify" your photos! I used it and this came up! We are a kitty and a unicorn!

In reality, I'm not going to dress up. Maybe I'll put on some cat ears or something, but that's about it! However, we are planning on passing out candy. I can't wait to see all the kids with their cute costumes! It's my favorite part about Halloween! (Minus the candy, of course!)

Hope you all have a great Halloween! Are any of you dressing up??? :)

Happy Caturday! (Update on Wedge)

Wedge has already gotten used to both of us being away all day at work. The first week was super sad because it seemed like he was doing things to prevent us from leaving. For example, he usually follows us when we leave a room. Especially in the morning because he knows he's about to be fed. But after my first day, he tried to stay in the bedroom after I got ready in the morning. I don't know. Maybe we were imagining it, but I do think that animals are intuitive and smarter than they look/act. It was like a little protest.

But like I said, he's used it now! Which makes me feel less guilty. Yes, I would rather stay at home with my cat all day than work, but having the extra income gives us a lot more room to breathe. And also, it's a lot more treats/food for Wedge. So I guess I'll stay. #spoiled

Wedge's new favorite spot
We received these cat shelves, above, from Contempo Cat for free! It was part of a giveaway that Haus Panther sponsored. We just had to pay for the pelican wall clips and shipping, which is a pretty good deal. Not sure how many cat shelves they gave away, but it seemed like a lot of people participated! And Wedge loves them!

We installed the shelves above the tv, which is a pretty precarious place to put them in hindsight. He likes to chase his tail on the shelves for some reason and sometimes we get scared he'll fall off, but so far so good. And our tv is still safe!

Taking a break from chasing the Roomba to look outside the window
We also got the Roomba, above, that Wedge seems to think is his newest toy. He goes nuts for the spinning side brush. Hopefully his curiosity about it dies down. He likes to undock it, even at night, which causes the roomba to make noise while it tries looking for the dock again. Also, he runs from whatever room he's in if he hears the roomba start on its scheduled cleaning time. He's obsessed!

Anyway, now you're updated on all the latest happenings about my cat!

Hope you all have a great weekend! :)

I'm back! (Things I'm Loving Lately)

It has been two months since I last posted which is coincidentally how long I have been at my new job. After not working for two years(!!!), it took me a while to get used to waking up early again and spending 8+ hours in an office. I was feeling super exhausted every day and using the weekends to recharge. Anyway, I didn't have the energy or motivation to blog or even cook dinner. However, I am feeling better. And although my job can be stressful, I am incredibly grateful to be working at all.

So, I'm going to try to be positive! I'll start by listing all the things that I've been loving lately, in no particular order:

Wedge, cat, with lipstick
Wedge with a bit of lipstick
1) My lovable, derpy cat, Wedge (above). He makes me laugh every day!

2) Every other Friday off from work. Hallelujah! This is going to spoil me for future jobs.

3) My iRobot Roomba 770. $500 for a vacuum?! Well, it's super convenient, sucks up a lot of cat hair, and lengthens the amount of time you can go between actual vacuuming. It has changed my life. Also, ain't nobody got time for vacuuming. At least I don't. If there were a robot that could fold laundry, my life would be set forever.

4) BECCA The One Perfecting Brush. I think that a lot of people hate it, but I personally looove it. It really cuts down on the time it takes to put on make-up before work. I use it for foundation, highlight, contour, and blush, which might make some people grossed out. But it works for me. It's a really dense brush, so it does take a while to dry after cleaning. I used to use the beauty blender sponge to apply foundation before this, but the BECCA brush is faster. I think that I'll continue to use the beauty blender sponge plus separate brushes for blush and stuff for fancier occasions.

Birchbox! (source)
5)  Birchbox! The above picture shows what I got in this month's box. I really liked the Temptu highlighter and the Noir eyeliner pencil (so smooth!). Last month's box was even better! I got a large "sample" of a ModelCO bronzer that I've been using lately, Amika dry shampoo (my new favorite), Laura Mercier eye gel creme, and hello breath spray. It's like getting a present every month.

6) Dry Shampoo! This is a lifesaver for those days that I don't want to wash my hair. Ew, I know. But sometimes I just need that extra 15 minutes to sleep. Dry shampoo is amazing! Also, is it just me or does 2nd day hair look awesome? At least that's what I'm telling myself.

7) My supervisor. I feel like I'm taking over a pretty crappy program, but my supervisor seems to be very understanding and tries to help me whenever I hit a dead end. Sometimes I want to give up, but then I think about how things would be worse if I had a bad supervisor. So, thanks for being a really cool lady!

8) Line app. My parents just moved to Okinawa, Japan a couple weeks ago for a new job that my dad got and I am able to call and video chat with them through this app (for free!). I guess it's a lot like Skype, but my parents chose to use Line instead. So thankful to be able to talk to my parents who are halfway around the world. Technology is amazing!

9) LOFT work pants! They recently had a 50% off sale, so I got two more work parts in the Marisa and Zoe fit. And this time in my right size! (They run super big, so I had to size down). They're a flattering fit and a pretty good price when they're on sale. Luckily, I can wear jeans to work, but sometimes I want to dress up a little, even if it's just for work.

10) Last, but not least: my husband! He's working full-time, too, but also attending school in the evenings to get his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. I feel like he has it worse than me, but he still listens to me vent about work and how I'm always tired and whatever else that I want to complain about. He's also super cool with eating take-out for dinner. Thanks for putting up with the two spoiled brats (me and my cat) in the house!

What sort of things are you guys loving lately? :) I feel so out of the loop!

Happy Caturday!

SO SASSY

Morning Cat Yoga

"That felt good"

"Let me stretch again for good measure!"

I enjoy waking up in the morning and getting ready to start my day because my cat is always there to keep me company and make me laugh! If I accidentally wake him up from his mid-morning nap, he always has this grumpy look, like, "What the heck, human?!" Sometimes, if it was a particularly good nap, he can barely keep both his eyes open. But he always feels better after a really good stretch or two, as seen in the pictures above.

I just found out a couple days ago that I officially got the job that I applied for months ago. I start on Monday! I won't be able to have the same lazy late-mornings with Wedge anymore, but maybe we will start a new and earlier "wake-up-and-get-ready" routine. Plus, we will always have the weekends! :)

A part of me will be a little sad on Monday while I think of my poor kitty alone at home. But a part of me also knows that he will be just fine looking out the window at the birds, squirrels, and bugs, making his hourly rounds around the house, and perhaps jumping on the forbidden kitchen counters all day. I just want my little furball to be happy!

Have you seen this video of a man being greeted by his cat after being gone for 3 days? I'm pretty sure that I watched it a hundred times already! Plus, this cat reminds me of my Wedge. :)

"meow-ow-ow-ow!"

Anyway, this weekend the humans and the cat will probably just be a bunch of lazy bones. There is laundry to do, of course. (The bane of my existence). But we also hope to visit a brewery called Frothy Beard Brewing with some friends later today. Other than that, we don't have any plans. But I like it that way. :)

What are you guys planning to do? Hope y'all have a great weekend! Stay safe!

Happy Caturday!

wedge resting after a night of fireworks

Last night, a lot of people were popping fireworks. It was kind of nice. Reminded me of Hawaii before they banned fireworks in 2011. However, my poor cat thought that the world was ending! He wouldn't even eat his Fancy Feast which is unheard of in this house. We had to reassure him that nothing bad was going to happen by speaking to him in soft, sweet voices while wrapping him up in his favorite blanket. Hahaha. We are seriously THE crazy cat couple on the street. How did this happen? O_O

Anyway, today is back to normal! We are still being lazy and watching Law & Order though. It's funny how easily we can become addicted to certain shows (like Orange is the New Black!). We end up binge watching all the episodes. Thankfully there are 20 seasons to go through! I really doubt that we'll run out anytime soon. It'd take years, I'm guessing!

Sweet Wedge is just cat-napping the day away. Have a great Saturday!

Overly Attached Wedge

My cat likes to pretend he doesn't care about us, but in reality, he HAS to be within a 5 foot radius of someone at all times. The other day I finally took out my actual camera (vs my iPhone) to take some pictures of my Modern Mermaid box (post here!). However, I ended up mostly taking photos of Wedge because he wouldn't get out of the way. I guess next time I could do it in another room while he's locked out, but his tiny meows slay me! Meep. Anyway, I couldn't resist posting pictures of him. hashtag catladystatus

He loves looking out the window. "IS THAT A BUG?! O_O"

And yes, those are chairs (we have eight for our dining table that we never use). I put them next to the window for the natural light. I think I need to figure something else out though. Maybe a small table instead? :)

Happy Caturday!

wedge on his kitty mansion cat tree

Wedge and I are hoping that you all have a great weekend! In our case, we're gonna be lazy and lay around today. But there will be bendy brewskis for the humans on Sunday.

What do you guys like to do on the weekends? Are you guys active and out and about? Or do you just like to stay home and relax? Maybe a combination of both? :)

Intro to Wedge

Wedge is currently my world! He is my adorable, little tuxedo cat that I adopted from the Charleston Animal Society which is South Carolina's largest animal rescue. I had begged Dallin to let me adopt a cat for a while. He didn't consider himself a "cat person," but I had been going through a bout of depression and I felt that having a kitty at home to keep me company would enrich my everyday life. So, I convinced him to at least take me to the animal shelter (which I managed to do by promising that I wouldn't adopt a cat). We looked at all the kitties and came across a cute 5-month old kitten named Andy. He was so, so, so cute. We made another round to look at all the cats again. We couldn't stop thinking about Andy, so we asked if we could meet him. They let us play with him in a tiny meeting room full of toys. It was a done deal by that point. Even Dallin, not a cat person, was enamored. We took him home that day! And that's the story of how Andy became Wedge and found a forever home with us. Makes me feel all mushy just thinking about it.

Our first picture together, still at the shelter.
He was such a timid guy when we first got him. It took him a couple hours to warm up to us (though I've been told that cats can take longer to get used to a new house). But now he is a total lovebug and clings to us like glue. Though he totally loves Dallin and I, he is still completely scared of other people. He likes to hide behind the dryer in the laundry room if we have guests over and that breaks my heart. If anyone has any tips about how to socialize a cat with other people, please leave a comment!

The witching hour starts around 9pm. Note the dilated eyes.
